Jocelyn Olivier Founder, Director & Esteemed Teacher
Raised in Canada on the islands off the West Coast of British Columbia, and applauded as one of the best practitioners in her field here and abroad, Jocelyn began her work in Marin County, California, in 1972. Her path to the creation of Conscious BodyWork® and NeuroMuscular Reprogramming was influenced by studies in neuro-muscular re-education, applied and educational kinesiology, American Indian and Hawaiian shamanism, and a trip to China to study Chinese physical therapy, or Tui-Na. Jocelyn is past President of the Association for Humanistic Psychology (AHP), and chairperson of the Somatics and Wellness Community of the AHP. She directed the 1999 International Somatics Congress: Body Wisdom

Bridget Ahern B.S., MPA, CMT
  is a graduate of Alive and Well! While at Alive and Well!, Bridget became captivated with the study of Polarity Therapy, a holistic modality that uses various forms of touch to balance and stimulate the free flow of energy in the body. She has been studying Polarity ever since! Bridget also studies Gestalt Awareness Practice with Christine Price and has a part-time practice in Berkeley.

Dana Rose Arevalo, CMT, CBW
is one of Alive & Well!'s first graduates. Dana's grandmother introduced her to massage as a child and infused in her the special sense of the trust and openness that has influenced her unique teaching and bodywork style. She integrates massage, NeuroMuscular Reprogramming, unwinding, sound, movement, and underwater therapy to promote health. Dana has been in private practice since 1987.

Mahriah Blackwolf
has been studying massage and movement based therapies since 1977. She is a certified practitioner in Looyen Work, Swedish, Sports and Infant Massage. Mahriah has specialized in massage for pregnant women and has been working in close association with numerous obstetricians, nurse practitioners, midwives and birth educators since the opening of her private practice in 1986.

Yvonne Bowman
BA, CMYT, CTP has been a practitioner of massage, Trager, and Touch for Health since 1981. She is also a certified Touch for Health instructor and an ordained minister of BodyMind Healing. Yvonne has a private practice in the south and east San Francisco Bay Area.

Ryan Brandenburg
Ryan Brandenburg has been a Zen practitioner since 1968. He has studied Massage and Zen Shiatsu with Ryoho Yamada-sensei. Since the late 90’s he has assisted Ryuho with teaching at Alive & Well! and Jikoji temple and retreat center in the Santa Cruz mountains where he is resident Director with a private shiatsu practice.

 

Joseph Carter LAC
has been practicing Oriental Healing Arts since 1978 and has been a core faculty member for over 10 years at the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley. Using shiatsu, acupuncture and Chinese herbology, Joseph1s practice is based in the power of human compassion and touch. He also teaches at the Academy for Guided Imagery in Mill Valley.

Jnani Chapman R.N.
is Massage Coordinator & Senior Staff Member of the Cancer Help Programs at Smith Farms in Washington, D.C. and Commonweal in Bolinas, CA whose program was featured on the award winning PBS special Bill Moyers “Healing & the Mind”. Jnani is the Stress Management Specialist nurse for the Breast Cancer Complimentary Support Program of UCSF & CPMC at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. She also trains yoga teachers in adapting yoga for cancer patients.

Trish Cooke
is a CMT graduate of Alive & Well!. Trish also studied at The American Academy of Reflexology in Burbank, CA. She is an active member of the California Association of Reflexology and the International Reflexology Association. Her enthusiasm and love for her work is reflected in her teaching style. Since 1996, Trish has had a private practice in San Rafael under the licensed name of Simplicity: Holistic Bodycare for Women.

 

Reza Farhang
is a Registered Polarity Practitioner, Certified Polarity Educator and an authorized Middendorf Breath ExperienceTM (L1) teacher. He has been a student and practitioner of energy medicine since 1994 and his Polarity and Somatic Energy Therapy is influenced by Medical Qi Gong, Reiki, Sensory Awareness and Breathwork. He has a private practice in Mill Valley.

Jerry Goynias
is a licensed Physical Therapist, nationally certified Massage Therapist and the founder of Medical Arts Massage School in Raleigh, N.C. He has successfully treated chronic muscle pain conditions for over 30 years. His proven techniques are based on specialized, hands-on musculoskeletal training he received from renowned physicians Janet Travell, M.D. and John Mennell, M.D.

Gretchen Grace, CBW
When Gretchen came to Alive & Well! to study in 1989, she was already a reflexologist of 20 years. Since then she has added NeuroMuscular Reprogramming and Deep Tissue to her private practice treatment options. The passion and excitement she brings to her work and teaching inspire the same in her students.

 

Tim Holt
became certified in Yoga in 1980, and in massage in 1987. He moved to Japan where he studied Zen-style Shiatsu and explored Asia's healing systems, studying Thai massage with several respected teachers. Tim's background led him to develop a unique massage style, blending Eastern disciplines with Western deep tissue massage techniques. Accomplished in private practice and spa experience, Tim shares his knowledge as an international teacher.

Ginger Solmonson Inglis
is a graduate of Alive & Well!'s Master BodyWorker program. She currently works in a chiropractor's office. Ginger has had a successful practice in San Rafael and in Novato.

Corinna Joy Kavanagh
graduated from Alive & Well! in 1991. Trained in Movement Ergonomics at the Dynamic Health and Fitness Institute in Corte Madera, CA, in 1993, Corinna developed and taught the first Massage Ergonomics classes at Alive & Well!. She works part time as an Alive & Well! Admissions Counselor, supervises the Student Clinic, and has a successful practice in Marin.

Michael McFarland
has been a dedicated practitioner of bodywork since his initial training in Hellerwork over twenty years ago. He is an associate trainer on the Hellerwork faculty. His knowledge and experience are extensive and diverse, including training with Joseph Heller and Greg Johnson, St. John Seminars and Upledger.

Larry Munn MDiv., CMT
is a graduate of Alive & Well! with a private practice in San Rafael and Berkeley. From his graduate work in theology and psychology, he has a deep appreciation of the many levels on which we strive for well being. Larry shares his skills in the NMR professional clinic at Alive & Well! and as supervisor in the Student Clinic. Larry brings a gentleness, maturity and dedication to teaching and that gains him rave reviews from all who work with him. 

Lyn Prashant
is an internationally recognized somatic health educator, grief counselor, massage teacher, yoga instructor, seminar presenter and author specializing in the somatic aspects of grief. She is the founder of Degriefing TM process, teaches and coordinates “Changing Paradigms in Loss and Grief” at UC Berkeley Extension, and presents Degriefing seminars nationally for the University of Arizona, Extended University. She has trained with Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, and her work is endorsed by Stephen and Ondrea Levine.

Elizabeth Seymour
is a graduate of Alive & Well!, and has been in private practice since 1989. She combines NMR, cranial sacral therapy, polarity, and lymphatic massage with a deep intuitive listening through Shamanic teachings to facilitate healing for the whole being.

Steve Sisgold
is the author of two books, three audio-cassettes, two video-cassettes, an inspirational music CD, and a Documentary Film titled "Holocaust In My Body". Steve holds an M.A. in Communications, is certified in body-centered psychotherapy and relationship counseling. Steve's clients include Kenny Loggins, Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks, Margot Anand, Alan Cohen and more. 

Julie Stuart BS
Has been practicing massage therapysince 1993. She combines her extensive background in anatomy and biomechanics with her experience as a triathlete to address the needs of rehabilitating athletes. Julie is the Director of Massage at Presidio Sport and Medicine in San Francisco and has a loyal following of athletes at her private practice in Mill Valley.

Krispin Sullivan, CN
has extensive experience in clinical nutrition, biochemical physiology, psychosomatic medicine, psycho-neuro immunology and substance abuse treatment. Listed in “Who’s Who in the West 1994,” Krispin is a consulting nutritionist to the health food industry and for post breast cancer women at Oakland Kaiser-Permanente. Her private practice is in San Anselmo.

Gael Thompson
is a graduate of Alive & Well!, and has a private practice which fuses bodywork, NMR, and Movement Education. A dance instructor of rhythmic and ecstatic dance, Gael’s unlimited fascination for the human body is contagious. She studied anatomy, kinesiology, and body alignment form Martha Myers, Andrew Bernard and Carol Loud.

 

Gale Ulvang, CBW
is an Alive & Well! graduate with a private practice in San Anselmo specializing in body integration. Through experience and experimentation, she has developed an extensive and unique repertoire of brain function/NeuroMuscular Reprogramming techniques.

David Weinstock, MST
has been practicing and teaching bodywork since 1973, training at the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics. Postgraduate studies include deep tissue and structural bodywork, NeuroMuscular re-education, and craniosacral therapy with Dr. John Upledger. He specializes in TMJ dysfunction, carpal tunnel syndrome and head and spinal injuries.

Patricia Wiltse
creator of Integrative Lymph-Visceral Massage and co-author of “An Integrative Approach to Lymphatic and Visceral Health,” is a prominent figure in the holistic health care field. She completed advanced training with Lauren Berry, Jean Pierre Barral, and Chi Nei Tsang. She received certification in Casley-Smith Lymph Edema Therapy, Vodder MLD, and Integrated Awareness.
